Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., will award eleven scholarships for the 2007 Nissan-NPO Learning Scholarship Program today. A commemoration ceremony will be held at Nissan's Ginza headquarters for the new scholarship recipients as well as last year's awardees.
The innovative program aims is to cultivate promising young individuals, who have a passion and desire to contribute to society. Through the annual program, Nissan offers scholarships to students who seek the experience of working with a non-profit organization (NPO), after they complete their NPO internship. The 10-year running program was first introduced in 1998 in partnership with non-profit organizations, and represents Nissan's commitment to support education, as one of the three priority areas under its corporate citizenship activities.
This year, the program received applications from a total of thirty-four students from 23 universities. The eleven recipients were selected following interview screenings. Beginning July, they will begin their internship postings at nine separate NPOs engaged in environmental protection, international cooperation, and social welfare.
At the ceremony, Nissan Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors Itaru Koeda will present graduation diplomas to last year's awardees. Additionally, three of the past recipients will reflect on their experiences as interns at the Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA), Kanagawa Information Center for Citizens' Activities, and Osaka Voluntary Action Center.
