You Are Here: Home - Chrysler - UAW President Ron Gettelfinger's Statement Regarding Chrysler Group Transaction with Cerberus

In an in-depth private meeting with Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management DaimlerChrysler AG, and Tom LaSorda, President and CEO of the Chrysler Group, in Stuttgart, it was explained that the status quo for the Chrysler Group was no longer an option. Furthermore the process of selecting the preferred investor for the Chrysler Group was fully explained. Subsequent to this meeting, UAW Vice President General Holiefield and I met with Tom LaSorda and John Franciosi, Senior Vice President of Employee Relations for the Chrysler Group for additional clarification on issues impacting our membership.

After a thorough review, General Holiefield and I concluded that the transaction with Cerberus is in the best interest of our membership, the Chrysler Group and Daimler.

We are satisfied now that the decision has been made so that our membership and management can focus on designing, engineering and manufacturing the finest quality products for the future success of the Chrysler Group.
