Dodge Announces Pricing for All-new 2008 Caliber SRT4

Dodge announced pricing today for the latest addition to Chrysler's popular Street and Racing Technology (SRT) vehicle lineup - the all-new 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4.

Boasting 285 horsepower, 265 lb.-ft. of torque and a 0-60 mph time in the low 6-second range, the all-new 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4 is available for $22,995, which includes $560 for destination. The 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4 once again delivers the SRT mission of benchmark performance at the lowest price.

"Like all of Chrysler's SRT vehicles, the all-new 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4 delivers customers an unmatched performance/value equation," said Mike Accavitti, Director - Dodge Brand and SRT Marketing Communications, Chrysler. "With 285 horsepower, 265 lb.-ft. of tire-smoking torque, and numerous functional, race-inspired exterior and interior appointments, Dodge and SRT have once again boldly joined the sport-compact performance market in dominating fashion."

The all-new 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4 showcases the renowned, five key aspects of any SRT vehicle: exterior styling that resonates with the brand image; race-inspired interiors; world-class ride and handling characteristics across a broad range; benchmark braking; and standout powertrain. The all-new 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4 unquestionably delivers in all five areas.

Exterior styling includes an aggressive SRT stance, a front fascia with functional brake cooling ducts and a larger grille opening. The unique hood features a functional air scoop enhancing underhood cooling. A large integrated spoiler above the rear glass is tuned for smoother air flow and lift reduction. Available exterior colors are Brilliant Black, Sunburst Orange, Bright Silver and Inferno Red.

Inside, the all-new Caliber SRT4 boasts sport seating with deep, performance bolsters, an SRT race-inspired instrument design, and an optional Reconfigurable Display (RCD), with exclusive "performance pages" that provide lateral and longitudinal G-force, 1/8-mile and 1/4-mile acceleration time and speed, 0-60 mph time and braking distance.

The Dodge Caliber SRT4's suspension is lowered 28mm in the front and 22mm in the rear, contributing to the unique SRT performance ride and handling characteristics. Chassis highlights include unique performance tuning, 19-inch cast-aluminum wheels and Goodyear three- or four-season performance tires.

Benchmark braking is delivered via four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with 340 x 28mm vented front rotors and 302 x 10mm rear rotors, with twin-piston aluminum front calipers.

And finally, a whopping 285 horsepower and tire-smoking 265 lb.-ft. of torque is delivered courtesy of Chrysler's 2.4-liter DOHC I-4 Turbo World Engine. An electronically tuned Brake Lock Differential and Getrag DMT-6 six- speed transmission help put the power to the ground.

2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4 Pricing:

The 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4 is well-equipped and has a U.S. MSRP of $22,995 (including $560 destination).

- New six-speed transaxle is a minivan first
- New 4.0-liter, V-6 engine offers increased horsepower and torque
- Aerodynamic improvements and new suspension architecture add up to a pleasant driving experience

A minivan-first six- speed transaxle is available for 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country.

The six-speed transaxle benefits include smaller steps between ratios which change the engine speed less, resulting in shifts that feel smoother, a higher numerical first gear that launches the minivan more briskly than a four- or five-speed transaxle and wide open throttle kickdown shifts that engage at a slightly higher ratio to provide needed acceleration with less engine flare.

Proven powertrains like a 3.3-liter V-6 engine that can be fueled with E85 and new options like a 4.0 liter V-6 engine that produces 251 hp and 259 lb.- ft of torque give drivers plenty of fresh choices in the new 2008 Chrysler Group minivans.

"Increased horsepower and torque, along with increased launch and passing responsiveness, make the 4.0-liter, V-6 engine a pleasure to drive," said Larry Lyons, Vice President - Chrysler Group Front-wheel-drive Platform Team.

For 2008, three powertrains offer performance and value for a variety of minivan uses. The 3.3-liter V-6 flex-fuel-capable engine is mated to a four- speed transaxle and produces 175 hp (131 kW) and 205 lb.-ft. (278 N*m) of torque. The 3.8-liter V-6 engine is mated to a new six-speed automatic transaxle that produces 197 hp (147 kW) and 230 lb.-ft. (312 N*m) of torque. The new 4.0-liter V-6 aluminum engine is mated to the new six-speed automatic transaxle that produces 251 hp (189 kW) and 259 lb.-ft. (350 N*m) of torque.

Sequential multi-port electronic fuel injection, electronic throttle control, platinum-tip spark plugs and a wide-band detonation sensor system in the 4.0-liter engine allow operation on 87-octane fuels.

"Chrysler Group has been a leader in flex-fuel-capable vehicles," said Larry Lyons, Vice President - Chrysler Group Front-wheel-drive Product Team. "We sold our first minivan capable of running on E85 in 1998 and since then, Chrysler Group has sold more than 1,330,000 flex-fuel minivans."

Ride and Handling

For 2008, the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans offer improved ride and handling characteristics and vehicle maneuverability. A new front-suspension architecture, new rear twist-beam suspension with coil springs and larger wheels and wider tires give the 2008 minivans increased steering responsiveness for a fun-to-drive experience. The MacPherson strut front suspension and twist-beam axle rear suspension are coupled with power rack-and-pinion steering for improved maneuverability.

Better maneuverability, taller outer-diameter tires, 16- and 17-inch wheels, an improved MacPherson strut front suspension and new rear trailing twist-beam axle suspension help improve the stance, ride and handling of the 2008 Chrysler Group minivans.

The new suspension architecture features MacPherson struts. The front cross member is isolated from the body, reducing road noise and harshness. Upper and lower urethane coil spring isolators have been optimized for overall ride quality, quietness and handling, and have been tuned directionally to handle loads. The new minivan's front stabilizer bar with double ball-joint stabilizer links helps maintain a level vehicle attitude during cornering for a more comfortable and controlled ride. Double shear brackets and pipe nuts attach the front suspension cross member to the body to prevent road noise and transmission harshness from entering the passenger compartment.

A new twist-beam rear axle with coil springs provides improved stability and ride comfort. This improves anti-lift as much as 45 percent for dive and provides improved levelness, especially on the highway. The track bar is isolated from the axle and the body for less Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) and improved handling. Self-leveling Nivomat(TM) shock absorbers are included with the minivan trailer tow package, which contributes to consistent ride and handling characteristics whether loaded or unloaded.

The 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan and 2008 Chrysler Town & Country are the only minivans to offer the Nivomat shock absorber option. The 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country feature 37 percent high strength steel for optimum structural performance. Advanced steels incorporated in the body provide excellent impact performance, improved ride and handling characteristics, enhanced body stiffness and reduced NVH.

On average, body structure stiffness is increased ten percent on the 2008 minivans compared with the previous model. The increased stiffness provides less road shake and improved ride comfort for passengers. This increased body structure stiffness was achieved by optimizing the body panel stiffness at the suspension and powertrain mount attachments to reduce vehicle vibration. An additional Patch Constrained Layer (PCL) also was added to the rear wheel house to stiffen it and reduce road-induced noise, while a plenum was added to the instrument panel bracket to reduce steering-column shake at idle. In addition, a rail-to-sill brace was added at the C-pillar to reduce seat shake, and the steering column was redesigned to increase its stiffness for a more solid steering feel.

Noise, Vibration and Harshness Reductions

Aerodynamic improvements have reduced wind noise, while high strength and hot-stamped steel and improved structural body stiffness have reduced NVH on the new 2008 minivans. Additional acoustic treatments also have improved interior quietness.

A number of the features in the 2008 Dodge and Chrysler minivans were designed to minimize wind noise. For example, the all-new roof rack crossbows have a more aerodynamic shape, the all-new front doors have a rolled frame design to improve sealing and all-new wiper blades are positioned below the air stream to minimize wind noise. The new minivans also feature larger, aerodynamically shaped mirrors for better viewing and wind flow, as well as thicker side door glass to reduce wind noise.

Overall interior quietness on the minivans was improved with acoustic treatments such as additional seals and body fillers, engine box treatments including an under-hood silencer and shock tower silencers, more dash panel PCL coverage and an upgraded inner dash silencer to further reduce engine noise. Thicker carpet underlayment was added to reduce road and interior noise levels, while integrated seals with sill cladding also help reduce road noise.

- In honor of Father's Day, East Coast dads and their children have a chance to win two new sets of wheels - a 2007 Dodge Magnum for dad and a Radio Flyer wagon for the kids

- Dodge will donate $25 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia for each team that registers for the challenge

-- Families ready to jump on the contest's wagon can register online

According to a recent Dodge brand survey, 68 percent of fathers had a little red wagon when they were children. In honor of Father's Day, the Dodge brand is helping dads carry on the wagon tradition with their children by giving dads a chance to win their very own big red wagon, an all-new 2007 Dodge Magnum, along with a new little red wagon in a one-of-a-kind Father's Day challenge.

Dodge will kick off Father's Day weekend on Friday, June 15 by inviting teams of fathers and their children to participate in the "Dodge Magnum Big Red Wagon" challenge in Philadelphia, Pa. From flipping burgers and packing up the car for a family outing to perfecting touchdown passes, up to 15 fathers will have the chance to test drive their super-dad skills by racing through a dad-themed obstacle course. Each obstacle course station will bring to life the iconic ways families spend Father's Day. The father who earns the best score will win the keys to the ultimate family vehicle - a 2007 Dodge Magnum - and all participating teams will receive a little red Radio Flyer wagon, along with a variety of other prizes.

In addition to celebrating Father's Day, the Dodge brand will also recognize the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia and the positive impact they have on children by making a donation of $25 for every team that signs up to participate in the challenge, for a total donation of up to $5,000.

"The 2007 Dodge Magnum is a stylish, high-performance vehicle that's perfect for modern dads, and the little red wagon is the iconic set of wheels for children," said Mike Accavitti, Director - Dodge Brand and SRT Marketing and Communications. "We are creating this one-of-a-kind challenge to give dads a chance to flex their modern muscles, have fun with their children and compete for a chance to bring home two new sets of wheels for the family - the Dodge Magnum and Radio Flyer wagon."

The Challenge

Up to 15 teams comprised of fathers and up to two children between the ages of three and 10-years-old will be invited to participate in the "Dodge Magnum Big Red Wagon" event in Philadelphia, Pa. Interested consumers can register online at www.DodgeMagnumBigRedWagon.com beginning Thursday, May 10 until Monday, June 4 at 11:59 p.m. (EDT).

During registration, participants will be asked to submit a 250-word essay answering the following questions - "Why would winning a Dodge Magnum be the ultimate Father's Day gift; and how would a new Dodge Magnum help you be a better dad?" All participants must be 18 years or older, hold a valid driver's license at the time of entry and must be the parent or legal guardian of the child(ren) on their team.

All participants must be legal residents of Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia or Washington D.C., and are responsible for transportation to and from the "Dodge Magnum Big Red Wagon" event.

Dads Dish on Fatherhood

According to a Dodge brand survey more than seven out of 10 Americans (71 percent) picked barbecues as the activity they most associate with Father's Day. To bring this tradition to life, the Dodge brand will heat up the "Dodge Magnum Big Red Wagon" event by firing up a gigantic HEMI(R) grill for the challenge attendees. Additional survey results revealed:

-- Like Father, Like Son: Within one year of becoming a father, nearly one in three dads (32 percent) admitted to doing or saying something their father used to do or say. By the time their children were three-years-old, more than half of all dads (56 percent) had done or said the same thing their father used to do or say
-- Sharpest Tool in the Shed: Thirty-seven percent of dads would love to get new tools while 29 percent of fathers have their eye on a new car for Father's Day
-- Growing Pains: More than half of all dads (54 percent) say the most enjoyable part of fatherhood is "watching their children grow." Forty-one percent of dads say "teaching their children new things" is the most enjoyable part of being a dad
-- Small Screen Dads: Nearly 44 percent of Americans identify Cliff Huxtable of "The Cosby Show" as the most iconic TV dad. Mike Brady from "the Brady Bunch" was next in line with 25 percent of the votes

  • New Dodge spot airs on May 12 in theaters across the country
  • No. 19 Dodge Charger of Elliott Sadler to carry special paint scheme at Coca-Cola 600
The newest Dodge brand vehicle will debut on the silver screen this summer in an action adventure movie with four superheroes who pilot this one-of-a-kind vehicle. Starting May 12, movie goers across the country will be among the first to see this vehicle on the silver screen when Dodge debuts its new ad in cinemas.

The Fantastic Four meet their greatest challenge yet, as the enigmatic intergalactic herald, the Silver Surfer, comes to Earth to prepare it for destruction in "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer." Twentieth Century Fox releases the film on June 15.

The vehicle of choice for the Fantastic Four is the one-of-a-kind Fantasticar, which can reach speeds of up to 550 mph and an altitude of 30,000 ft. The Fantasticar also can separate into three sections. Each one has deployable wings and can maintain the same speed and performance as the entire craft. And yes, it has a HEMI(R).

Among the Dodge cues on the Fantasticar are the brand's signature crosshair grille with ram's head logo and the Dodge name on the front and rear fascias. A red ram's head logo also appears on the seat headrests.

"Opportunities to be involved with the cultural icon like the Fantasticar don't come around very often, so we jumped at the chance to work with Marvel Comics and 20th Century Fox," said Michael Curmi, Senior Manager - Entertainment Marketing, Chrysler Group. "Dodge is a great American car brand teaming up with a great American superhero team. We both have great heritage that appeal to people around the world, so it was only natural for us to partner on this new Fantastic Four movie with the debut of the ultimate superheroes vehicle."

Another limited edition Dodge vehicle making its debut on May 27 is the No. 19 "Fantasticar" Dodge Charger of Elliott Sadler at the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series' Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The No. 19 car will feature a stunning paint scheme that showcases the ghost-like Silver Surfer shooting across the hood, while flames explode over the nose and up the fenders of the Fantasticar. The familiar Fantastic Four logo will also adorn both rear quarter panels.

"The No. 19 "Fantasticar" Dodge Charger is a great new look for Elliott's car, and we expect his race car's performance will rival that of the Fantasticar in the movie," said Mike Accavitti, Director, Dodge Brand and SRT Marketing and Communications. "Our motorsports program is an integral part of Dodge's overall marketing strategy, and with the Fantasticar Dodge Charger, we're able to generate further awareness and interest with both general consumers and NASCAR fans."

Other elements of the Dodge partnership with 20th Century Fox and its partners are a toy Dodge Fantasticar by Hasbro; Dodge Fantasticar inclusion in the Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer video game; and in-theater and national television promotions.

In addition to the Fantasticar, the other Dodge vehicles getting screen time in the "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" are the Dodge Ram Mega Cab(R) and Durango.

"The Dodge brand is always looking forward to new bold design directions, so it is inspiring to see the Fantasticar with the Dodge brand's signature crosshair grille and Ram's head logo in a completely futuristic vehicle," said Mark Spencer, Senior Manager - Dodge Brand Communications, Chrysler Group. "We hope people around the world have as much fun watching the Fantasticar as Dodge Marketing is having promoting the out-of-this-world vehicle."
