Alfa Romeo 147 Sport and Sport Q2 special edition in the UK

Alfa Romeo is releasing a limited number of stunning special edition Alfa 147 Sport and Sport Q2 models in the UK.

The new Alfa 147 Sport features a number of unique enhancements to the Alfa’s exterior styling. New 17-inch 5 spoke wheels add poise, while satin effect wing mirrors, a roof spoiler and chrome exhaust hint at the sporting prowess. The sport theme continues inside, with some subtle touches starting with exclusive Q2-type cloth used for the seats, aluminium pedals, sports dials, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and darkened roof lining.

The top-of-the-range Sport Q2 version has some unique features over the Sport specification; the most fundamental being the Q2 Limited Slip Differential. This addition to the Alfa 147’s already surefooted chassis is complemented by lowered sports suspension and unique Q2 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the higher specification machine adds black leather sports seats, dual zone climate control and stainless steel kick plates over the Sport specification. All 147 Sport models are available in Alfa Red, Stromboli Grey or Carbonio Black, colours which all accentuate the car’s distinctive styling.

By adding the Q2 system with its Torsen Limited Slip Differential which splits torque between the front drive wheels dynamically and constantly, according to driving conditions and the road surface it has given the Alfa 147 a sharper turn-in when cornering, adding to the car’s A-road prowess. The Q2 system also enhances traction, thus allowing the driver to enjoy the impressive 225 lb/ft of torque from the JTDM 16v engine with absolute confidence.

However, drivers will have to be quick to get their hands on one of these sharp-looking hatchbacks, with only 450 Alfa 147 Sport and 350 Alfa 147 Sport Q2 models available. The Alfa 147 Sport is available with either the 1.6 TS petrol engine or the 1.9 JTDM diesel unit. The Sport Q2 comes equipped with the 1.9 JTDM 16v unit, endowing the LSD-equipped car with a lusty 150bhp.

The Alfa 147 Sport is available in three or five door body styles. Available from £13,450, this model represents exceptional value for money in its class. The Alfa 147 Sport Q2 is available from £16,950 for the three door hatch and £17,450 for the five door version.

Alfa 147 Murphy&Nye
Alfa Romeo Launches the Alfa 147 Murphy&Nye

On June 9 and 10 the public will be able to examine and try out the Alfa 147 Murphy&Nye, the new version that has resulted from collaboration between Alfa Romeo and the company famous for its brand of nautical clothing and sportswear designed for the racing world.

Powered by the sparkling 120 bhp 1.9 JTDM, the car has exclusive Light blue Crystal bodywork, 17” alloys and a chrome-plated exhaust terminal. The grille, whiskers and wing mirrors all have the same satin-effect finish, while the Murphy&Nye logo, a name of great distinction in the yachting world, decorates the pillar and rear end.

Inside, the sporty effect is even more refined, underlined by an original leitmotiv that links the car world to the world of yachts. The result is a blue and cream colour combination that lightens the interior, sporty leather seats with blue side strips and a cream seat, and the Alfa Romeo logo embroidered in red on the head restraints. The red coulisse on the gaiters of the gear lever and hand brake knobs and on the document pockets of the seats gives an extra touch of refinement. The kick-panels decorated with the M&N logo and the rope and frogging pattern on the mats underline the bond between this 147 and the sailing world. There is a generous range of M&N accessories that includes a large bag, a key-ring and a document folder with the company logo. Standard equipment on the Alfa 147 Murphy&Nye also includes foglights, dual zone automatic climate control, Cruise Control, a trip computer, VDC, ASR, 6 airbags and a radio complete with CD player and 6 speakers.

Available with a 5-door body and a list price of ¤ 24.690 on the road, the Alfa 147 Murphy&Nye perfectly embodies the values shared by the two companies: a passion for racing, for a challenge and for freedom. Alfa Romeo models have always combined unique, typically Italian style, with a high technological content, at the top of their class for performance and capable of guaranteeing strong emotions, an exciting drive and total safety. Murphy&Nye similarly boasts a long tradition in the yachting world. Its years of experience began with sail production before they moved on to the creation of technical clothing designed and made for the racing world, constantly experimenting with new hi-tech fabrics.

The elegant, sophisticated Alfa 147 Murphy&Nye is metropolitan and sporty, dedicated to people who like to live on the move, and who demand beauty combined with practicality and convenience. The worlds of the car and of the yacht meet on board the Alfa 147 with an unprecedented appeal. The launch of the new Murphy&Nye version will be preceded by a special initiative on the http://www.alfa147game.it/ site from June 3.
History repeats itself. Alfa Romeo has won the 2007 edition of the Mille Miglia with one of its most prestigious models, the 6C 1500S, that won the second edition of the famous race in 1928 with Giuseppe Campari and Giulio Ramponi, the first of eleven victories in the thirty editions of the celebrated Italian road race. Today the race is run as a revival regularity event for vintage cars, which does not detract in any way from the characteristics of speed and reliability that the cars must be able to demonstrate over 1600 km, along the roads that were taken by the original race until 1957, the last year that the Mille Miglia was run as a race.

The success of the Alfa Romeo 6C 1500S of Luciano Viaro and Luca Bergamaschi is the result of Alfa Romeo Automobiles’ determination to create a museum and an organisation to celebrate its prestigious history. No fewer than five cars from the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum competed in the 2007 Mille Miglia. In addition to the winner, they included the 8C 2300 Le Mans of 1931 driven by Marx – Verga, a sporty version of the 8C 2300 which won the Le Mans 24 Hours four consecutive times from 1931 to 1934; the Alfa Romeo 1900 Sport Spider of 1954 driven by Arceri-Di Mare, which came 35th, the 1900 C52 Disco Volante Spider of 1952, driven by journalists Francesca Grimaldi and Rossella Labate (147th), and the 750 Competizione of 1955, driven by Izquerdo-Azpilicueta.

As it did in 1928, Alfa Romeo managed to beat Bugatti, which had come to Italy in 1928 determined to win, but had to make do with the 6th place of Brilli-Peri, preceded by three Alfa Romeos, an OM and a Lancia.

The success of the Alfa Romeo 6C 1500S in the 2007 revival is all the more significant because of the large number of contestants: a total of 375 teams with the best cars from the growing number of makes that take part in the event each year. A total of 32 historical Alfa Romeos competed in the 2007 Mille Miglia, from all the periods in which the race was run. The unique context of the race, which crosses Italy, acclaimed by crowds of enthusiastic fans, is an important part of the history of vintage car racing, making this event unique.
